FAQs

1. What is the best age to photograph my child?

-There are a few big milestones in the first year to be aware of when you are planning your sessions:

Newborn: Sleepy shots to show off curliness, littleness, softness and newness of your baby. Tiny little fingers with even tinier fingernails, tiny noses, pouty lips, cute little baby toes… Newborn sessions are reserved for infants younger than 10 days of age. The session can take up to 4 hours to accommodate the baby’s needs (like feeding/nursing, changing diapers, and putting baby back to sleep).

This is the best time to photograph your baby, especially since this stage will fly by!

After about 2 weeks the baby sleeps less and less and wakes up easily but doesn’t really interact much.

3 months – Tummy time sessions for babies between 3-5 months are available as mini sessions only. Please inquire.

6-8 months – This is such a lovely age! Your baby can most likely sit up which is a huge accomplishment and makes a big difference for photographs! Baby can still stand up when held by his/her hands. Best of all, he/she can’t crawl or run away from us yet!

9 months – Baby is crawling and will really make me work for a good shot! He/she might be able to stand if holding onto a stool or chair.

12 months-ish – Baby is doing amazing things and is no longer a ‘baby’. He/she is trying to walk and stand up like a big kid now. This is a big milestone for baby and the family! They are a lot of fun and show their personality very well. Messy cake smashes are loads of fun for babies at 1 year of age.

2. Do you photograph children older than 1 year?
At this time I am only offering sessions for children under 12 months of age, except when included in family sessions. 🙂

3. When should I schedule my session?
As soon as possible! I tend to book up about 4-6 weeks in advance, so scheduling as soon as possible is always a best bet. If you don’t have 4-6 weeks notice, contact me to see if I have any last minute cancellations.

4. How many pictures will I see from my session?
That depends on the package you choose! Mini sessions can yield up to 10 images and full sessions can yield up to 40 images.

5. Where will my session take place? In studio or on location?
I offer family sessions outside between the months of April and November as weather permits. Studio sessions are reserved for maternity, newborn and baby sessions. Maternity and baby sessions may be offered at an outdoor location of your choice between the months of April and November as weather permits. In home / lifestyle sessions are typically not my style and therefore are not offered.

6. What is the best time of day for outdoor photos?
Evening light is the ideal time for outdoor images, which is why I only schedule outdoor sessions within an hour or two before sunset. Direct overhead sun creates harsh shadows on faces, therefore it’s best to schedule outdoor sessions when the sun is low and warm.

7. What if my child is sick?
We should reschedule, with as much notice as possible. A sick child will not very well tolerate a silly photographer, flashing lights, and outfit changes. Also, since I am photographing babies as young as 4 days old, it is in the best interest of all clients if sick individuals do not enter my studio. Your reservation fee is non-refundable but it is transferable once. I will also extend the same courtesy to you; if I am sick (or my family is sick) I will advise you as soon as possible so that we can decide if we should reschedule or not.

8. How long will my session last?
Baby sessions can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the baby and the session package you chose. I highly recommend that only those individuals being photographed are present during your session. Too many people can cause your baby to become distracted and look off camera. Maternity sessions are typically 1 hour long. Newborn sessions can last anywhere from 2.5 – 4 hours.

9. When will my photos be ready for me?
About 2 weeks after your session.

10. Do you offer Gift Certificates?
Yes. Gift Certificates are quite popular, especially for baby shower gifts.

11. Do you photograph larger groups?
Posing larger families and groups is not really my style. Due to this I prefer to photograph immediate families only with a maximum of 5 members.

12. What is the best way to reach you?
It seems like I’m always at my computer, whether I’m editing, communicating to clients, or chatting with family. Due to this the best way to reach me is via email. You may also contact me via phone (or even text me!), and if I don’t answer I will return your call as soon as time permits.

13. What if it rains?
If you have booked an outdoor session and the forecast calls for rain, we will most likely reschedule for another day.

14. What is your turnaround time?
Your images will be ready for you to view and download about 2 weeks after your portrait session. Prints can take 2 – 3 weeks; albums can take up to 6 weeks.

15. Can I bring my camera or camcorder to the session?
No, it gets way too confusing when more than one camera is involved. Please leave your camera/camcorder at home.

16. Will I get sneak peeks on facebook or your blog?
Yes, I will provide you with one sneak peek on facebook or my blog within 48 hours of your session.

17. Do you photograph babies who are 3 months old?
Currently I am only offering 3 month mini sessions.

18. How old does my newborn need to be?
For those cute, curly, sleepy photos your newborn should be between 4-7 days old. It is recommended that all newborn sessions are done before 10 days of age.

19. What if my baby comes early or late?
When we book your newborn session your date is a tentative date which we can change depending on your babies actual arrival. You will contact me within 48 hours of your baby’s arrival and we can schedule a date at that time for when baby is under 14 days old. Sometimes my schedule is full, so booking in advance just reserves you a spot and makes sure you will be able to get in.

20. Do you do any further edits on photos?
As a photographer, all edits are done to my discretion, including converting to black and white. Additional edits may be considered at a rate of $30 per image/adjustment.

21. Do you offer refunds?
No. Due to the custom nature of photography, I do not offer refunds on sessions, packages, prints or products. All product sales are final once I have submitted your order to the lab.

22. Can you hold an inquired session date for me?
Inquired session dates can only be held for 48 hours due to limited availability. Your session date is reserved for you once your contract is completed and your retainer fee is paid in full.

23. Do you retain copyright to the images from my session?
All photos are copyrighted, as per Canadian Copyright Law.  The negatives and or digital images (hereinafter collectively “images”) created by Sherri Peroni Photography and/or subcontractor(s) remain the property of Sherri Peroni Photography.  It is illegal to copy, scan, reproduce, or print without the written permission of Sherri Peroni Photography.  Violators of this federal law will be subject to its civil and criminal penalties. My packages include high resolution digital images which come with a print release so that you may print at your leisure.  Please respect my work by not screen-capturing/copying my images from my website/blog/facebook, or any other website. On the same note, using one of my images as your profile picture on facebook is one of the biggest compliments you can give me. All I ask is that you give me the credit I deserve by keeping my image and logo intact.

24. When are my payments due?
Your retainer fee is due within 48 hours of booking and is paid as a retainer to reserve your date. It is non-refundable. The remaining balance of your chosen package is due at your session.

25. How can I pay?

You can pay via cash (in person) at the studio,  credit card (visa or mc), paypal to sherriperoni@gmail.com, and interac etransfer to sherriperoni@gmail.com.
